My students talked with Ada Yan (Skype a Scientist, Microsoft). She use mathematics to study the spread of infectious diseases. In her work, she use experimental data to calculate how the flu virus spreads between human cells, with the ultimate aim of seeing which types of bird flu might be more likely to spread between people. Her work combines maths, biology and public health.
