    Vues Lumière (France) : the first films to be screened in actual cinemas (1895-1902). The comments are in French but the films should be studied without sound. There are 12 or more such videos. A documentary (part 1 of 7) about the story of the Lumière films (in English, with a French accent) !

     

    Le Voyage dans la Lune (France) : the famous early film "Trip to the moon" by George Méliès (1902).

     

    The Name of the Rose (Europe) - extract : the labyrinth part. A 1986 Italian-French-German mystery historical film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, based on the book of the same name by Umberto Eco, and featuring Sean Connery.

     

    Metropolis (1927) and M (1931), by Fritz Lang (Germany). Two famous films depicting expressionist German films of the 1930's and the passage from silent to talking movies.
