The history of our school

  • The history of the United School at Dominika Tatarka Street in Poprad has been writing its fourth decade.

The first milestone was on September 1, 1980, when a four-year grammar school was founded at Zápotocký Street. In addition, 192 pupils were taught at that time, taught by 17 members of the teaching staff. The school focused on natural sciences and foreign languages and was a pioneer in computer science. At present, the four-year grammar school has a general focus.

Another important date was November 12, 1991. On that day, the Slovak-German Section was opened and, at the time of its inception, was the only bilingual section in Slovakia supported by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. 72 students enrolled in the first year of the bilingual section. Gradually, the concept of this part of school changed. "Bilinguals" have become a school with a German school-leaving exam, which means that their graduates are equivalent to graduates of grammar schools in Germany and can study at universities in German-speaking countries.

September 1, 2008 is the date of the United School of Tibetan Dominica. In addition to the basic organizational components, it has become a fully organized elementary school with an integration project for disadvantaged children, which are dedicated not only to qualified teachers but also to assistants, special pedagogues and physiotherapists.

Care for disabled pupils was also extended to secondary school students, which was 35 integrated in standard classes. The project of the Center for Olympic Training at the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, which worked in 2009-2013, was also viable. This is evidenced by athletes - our graduates who represented Slovakia at the ZOH in Soči.

Our school offers quality education, as evidenced by the success of admission to colleges. BS graduates are maximum - one hundred percent success, abiturients from the 4-year grammar school achieve 99.6% success rate.

The fact that the Institute for Social and Economic Reform (INEKO) has appreciated our school for several years as the best grammar school in the Prešov region and awarded it the 9th place in Slovakia
