Pupils said that Tortillas look like our local PiadinaWe notieced that we have Lasagne on our menu too.

Everyone commented on the snow: they really like the idea of playing in the snow. They liked the icicles with flowers in them.

Some said that we also have the spider web swing in ModenaThey liked the idea of playing kittens in the snow.

They liked the playground a lot. They said the sand pit looks like a swimming pool full of snow.

We thought the clothes drying cabinet was a fantastic idea.

Children were surprised that you read after your meal in the canteen. That feels very relaxing: our canteen is always very noisy!!

They thought it was a good idea to put chairs on the table to allow cleaners to swipe the floor. However you seem to have stools whereas we have bigger chairs and it could be dangerous for of kids to lift them.

We like the idea that you can ask for small-medium-large food portions. We don’t have that choice and a lot of food goes to waste!! So we are thinking of adopting your habit to see whether we can avoid food waste. Our 2 dinner ladies are always in a hurry though because they have more than 200 students to serve....and we have no longer than 45 minutes to eat first, second course and fruit and clear the table after meal.

Pupils from Helsinki-Finalnd reply to the questions asked by Italian pupils

    1. We go back to class to read the book. Some groups are in a early years centre so they eat in their usual room and usually have another room next door where they read the book and have a nap/rest. Other groups are in a school building and they eat in the canteen and go back to their rooms for the book and nap.

    2. No one has ever got injured. The children have learnt to be careful and look where others are so they don't accidentally hit them with the chairs.

    3. You need an empty milk cartoon. In Finland they are made of cardboard. Then you put a flower inside and fill it up with water. Then you take it outdoors when it's freezing cold. This winter we had good weather for this because it was so cold. Then you just leave it there and wait, maybe next day or so it is ready and you can rip off the cartoon.

    4. You put a piece of string half-way in the water before it is frozen.

    5. Xylitol mint is something we take after every meal and it helps to keep the teeth healthy. After every meal or snack there is an "acid attack" in your mouth and xylitol helps to make this less severe. A xylitol mint is usually a small, white pill that you chew and it tastes nice.
