Educational visit National Gallery

  • 1. Theme: Ten very important artpaintings were stolen from the National Gallery of Cyprus.

     

    2. Overview: The students know some Cypriot painters (Michael Kashalos, Andreas Asproftas, Tilemachos Kanthos, Takis Frangoudes, Adamantios Diamantis, Victor Ioannides)

    3. Things that make the theme interesting: The Natrional Gallery is very near the school and they can actually visit it. Also, the students are very interested in Arts. They love painting and learn about artists, paintings, artstyles and art techniques.

    4. Inquiry questions: Who can have stolen the painting? How this happened? Why these paintings? Why paintings of this artist?

    5. The narrative - people, location, events, time, tension: Location:National Gallery, Time:early the morning, Tensions: fingerprints, broken glass.

    6. Expert Team - powers, responsibilities and values: Art experts

    7. Client - role, purpose and authority: Director of National Gallery

    8. Commission: There will be an important event at the National Gallery in one week and significant people will visit the Gallery. The students are asked to reproduce the stolen paintings and replace them at the National Gallery until the originals will be found. 

    9. Other points of view: What the guardian saw, heard or experienced that night. 

    10. Team tasks and classroom activities: Study the artstyle of the painter Michael Kashalos, so they can reproduce his pstolen paintings. 

    11. Curriculum links: they investigate about the cypriot painter Kashalos, his artworks and the characteristics of his paintings.

    13. Sequence of steps into the fiction: The teacher said that the Director of the National Gallery call her and ask for help. All the paintings of Kashalos were stolen. The Director heard that the students are "Art Experts" and he wants us to reproduce the stolen paintings so the visitors dont realise that are missing. The students visited the National Gallery. They investigate the place.

    They investigate the room that the paintings were.

    They interview the employee of the Gallery.

     

     

    After thei visit, they return to the school, they studied the stolen paintings from the photographs that the Director gave them and then they start working on the paintings. When they finished they visited again the National Gallery to give the Director the paintings.
