    A9-13: Trip to Klaipeda Castle

45 our students from 5th-8th grades visited Klaipeda castle and took part in a few educational lessons.

The first of them was called „From the castle to coat of arms“. The students learnt new information about heraldry, discovered different types of coat of arms in the castles, towns and families. The children were interested in origin, purpose, symbols and details of coat of arms. They were encouraged to guess the meaning of symbols in different coat of arms. Later all were provided the tools for creating their own family coat of arms. The students picked details of different colours, shapes and symbols and, as the educator pointed, created great masterpieces.

The second lesson was called „Symbols of the town“. Students were keen to know about development of the medieval town, privileged residents and the first stamps of the town. The educator explained the meaning of such symbols as flag, stamp and coat of arms. Finally, students tried creating the stamps of Klaipeda city themselves and got the Diplomas proving their participation in the lection about history of Klaipeda city.

When presenting students the history of Minor Lithuania, its heraldry and aspects of symbols, we strove to develop students ‘social, citizenship, cultural and personal competencies. Besides this, we implemented Steps A9-13 of the project “Written in Stone“. All school society is able to admire the students ‘masterpieces in the corner of Erasmus + at school.
