Modern Greek and ancient Greek (the Athenian of the 4th century) alphabets are identical as far as the capital letters are concerned. Small letters were in the Byzantine era introduced. Here we have a game to play with different Greek alphabets/writing systems from the Mycenean one to the classical and byzantine one, created by the very interesting Archaeological Museum of Theba.
In modern Greek we do not use spirits or accents. In modern Greek we do not have long and short vowels. We just have these vowels just like the Italians: a(α), e (ε, αι), i (ι,η,υ, ει,οι,υι), o (ο,ω), u (ου). All of them short. We stress (') the words by pronouncing the vowel louder.
Notice! We do not pronounce modern Greek in the way ancient Greeks did. At school we pronounce ancient Greek as we pronounce modern Greek! Spanish students pronounce ancient Greek differently!
