  • GEOGRAPHY. BASIC FACTS

     

    In order to be able to compare our towns, cities or regions, please find following informations and upload them to eTwinning, (project files folder) mentioning your school and city in the name of each file ( please use text or excel file, open formats when possible).
     

    Then, we (Chartres) will collect the results of your "investigations" and compare the regions in a common presentation for the final e-book.

    Please use recent data and indicate their date.

     


    GENERAL MAPS:
    Using the software of your choice (inkscape, office, gimp...), draw maps that locate :

    -your country in Europe

    -your region and your town in your country

    - the capital city of your country and of your region
    Export the maps as jpeg, png, svg, pdf, for instance.


    EDUCATION:
    -What secondary schools do exist in your urban area ?
    -What are the nearest universities?

     

    LANDSCAPES AND ENVIRONMENT:
    -Take or find pictures of the main types of landscapes (except the city itself) in your area.
    -Describe them taking into account: the landforms, geology,
    vegetation, climate/weather...

    -The climate graph of your city. (Use Excel or Open Office)

    DEMOGRAPHY:

    For each indicator, find informations about your country, your region and your urban area, when possible or when data are available. Please use a table to gather data.

     

    - number of inhabitants (and the % of the population of the country that live in your region)

    - Line chart: evolution of the population since 2000 (use OpenOffice or Excel)

    - rate of natural increase
    - median age
    - population pyramid

    - life expectancy

    - fertility rate (births per woman)
    - H.D.I. (when available)


    ECONOMY:
    -What are the three biggest employers in your area? (and their field of activity)

    -How many local employees are working for them ?
    -Make a pie chart showing the % of the employees in primary, secondary and tertiary industries in your urban area (or, if not available, your region). Give local examples of jobs or actvities.

    -What agricultural crops? (with pictures)

    -What industries? (with pictures)

    - Average yearly income (in Euros)

    How many tourists per year ?
    -GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita, in Euros only (or converted into Euros if available in a different currency). For: your country, region , urban area (or city)



    TRANSPORTS:

    -Draw (or find) one map of the train lines, bus lines, main roads in your area...and name the directions.

    - Where did you find reliable data? (List the documents or websites that you used)
