February 16th, 1918 marks the day when Lithuania gained independence from Russia after 123 years of forcible annexation to restore its historical statehood. This date also marks the birth of modern Lithuania, a democratic state based on the principles of freedom, equality, and prosperity. The year 2018 is dedicated to celebrating the 100th year anniversary of restored Lithuania, as well as the centennial achievements of the state, its people and the country’s ambitions for the future.
