Our school is a- 12 post primary school catering for a school population of 250 students and occupying 25-30 teachers of various majors including 1 learning assistance support teacher and 2 in-glassroom support teachers . Our school is located in the coastal town of Agios Nicolaos, the capital of the prefecture of Lassithi. It is currently operating with 14 general education class groups , 1 special education class , learning assistance classes whereas in the past it also housed a newcomers’ class.
The student body is of various socio-economic levels. A significant number of our students’ families have been severely affected by the economic crisis while an approximate 1/3 of our students descend from economic migrants (2nd or 3rd generation migrants).
Our school doesn’t face any accommodation problems and all the classrooms are basically functional. Our facilities include: an assembly hall with a projector-also suitable for screenings, a sound console, a library, a science lab with an interactive whiteboard, a computer room, a plant nursery, a whole-day classroom with nutrition equipment, an inclusion class, an indoors gym and a spacious playground .Most of our classrooms are equipped with headlights in the prospect of whiteboards.
Our common vision is to create a “model” , modern school where new teaching methods, structures and technology will be used for a specific cause: to enable students to get the necessary knowledge and skills in order to come up against the demands of the 21st century ,to form their critical thinking and active participation in the public affairs , to socialize with tolerance and respect to difference.
Our school encourages the participation in European partnerships through programmes such as erasmus+ , twinning etc. We have successfully fullfilled a two-year comenius programme in 2009 , several e-twinning partnerships and we are partners in an Erasmus+ collaboration that ends in Sept 2018.
