The course contains 56 hours of guided tuition over 7 days.
SMILE means – ‘Using museums and heritage as a teaching and learning resource’.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- To look at ways in which Schools and Museums can work together to increase pupils knowledge and understanding of the world
- To develop ways of using Museums to explore the identities of ourselves and others
- To explore ways of working in cities as museums
- To critically read and deconstruct museums
PRACTICAL GROUP PROJECT:
- A photo essay including a quiz that presents an exploration of the city and its museums.
- We are sent out as a group of museum curators/explorers to find out more about Lisbon and its museums. Through our visits that week we tried to get behind the city and its museums as presented to tourists.
- On the last day of the course each group present a photo essay/exhibition of no more than 12-15 images (3-4 per participant) that looks at one clearly defined theme through the city and visits to museums.
- We wrote a short lesson/implementation plan of how would we interpret and teach using museums for the students we teach.
