Åland Islands

  • Vikingaåsen school

The Åland Islands are part of Finland, but on the islands everybody speaks Swedish and it’s also the official language. We have a certain autonomy, which means we can make our own laws on certain things. We also have our own flag. Our school is about 5,6 kilometers from Mariehamn, which is our capital and the only town we’ve got.

There are almost 250 pupils in Vikingaåsen school, from first grade to sixth grade. The children start school at the age of seven. After finishing sixth grade, at the age of 13, the children move on to another school . We have 14 classes. We have a big schoolyard with among other things a cableway, swings and two football grounds. From our school classes 3C, 5A and 5B participate in Schoolovision.
