The 1st teaching/Learning/Training activities meeting in Tradate, Italy, 5-11 March 2017

  • THE 1st TEACHING/LEARNING/TRAINING ACTIVITY MEETING IN TRADATE

After the first transnational meeting of the P@LS project in Trikala last November, we travelled to northwestern Lombardy and visited the beautiful city of Tradate for the first teaching / learning / training activity meeting with the participation of students and teachers from all collaborating schools of the partnership.

Patrizia Neri, the Principal of "Liceo Scientifico Marie Curie", and our Italian colleagues, welcomed us warmly and hosted us for a week during which we had the opportunity to be trained in the application 'RunEat', created by the students of the Italian school and presented to their European peers through workshops and digital programming activities. After a very interesting workshop presented by the PE teacher Mrs Daniela Putzu, concerning the ways food and sport can be combined to provide a healthy way of life, the construction of the multifunctional application RunEat gave the participants the opportunity to program the measurement of Basal Metabolism, calculate their Body Mass Index, add a pedometer, calculate the daily caloric intake and caloric consumption and enrich it with sports activities and recipes of national dishes that help to maintain a good physical condition of the body. Τhe meeting was a unique experience for a large multinational group of students and teachers, and created an excellent impression giving added value to the process of our project implementation.

In addition, during the welcoming ceremony organized by the Italian school, the 1st Esperino EPAL of Trikala, being the coordinating institution, awarded the student Merve Nur Kılınç from Turkey, who won the contest for the best logo design.

On the last day of our stay at the Liceo Scientifico Marie Curie, students and teachers attended a very interesting workshop with the Arduino programming language taught in IT courses through robotics applications, as well as a 3-D printing demonstration with the equipment that is available at the Italian school.

The students of the participating countries who visited Tradate, were hosted by Italian families and were able to get a taste of the lifestyle of their Italian fellow classmates, while at the same time they had the opportunity to practice their communication skills in English.

In our free time we visited the Frera Museum, the Library and the Pineta Park. In the Town Hall of the city we were welcomed by the Mayoress Fiorina Cavalotti, who underlined the importance of the Erasmus + program and awarded all the partner schools with a special commemorative plaque engraved with Saint Augustine's quote: 'The world is a book and those who do not travel, read only one page. "

At Villa Truffini the orchestra of the Elementary School I.C. "Galilei" gave a short musical performance for us. Moreover, we visited the monasteries of Cairate and Torba, the Castiglione Olona and Palazzo Cardinal Branda, the Colleggiata and its Battistero.

The half-day visit to the metropolis of the North, the beautiful city of Milan proved to be a unique experience for all of us. We headed over to the Castello Sforzesco, we walked along Via dei Mercanti, we visited the magnificent Duomo, which Mark Twain had once called "Poetry in Marble", while the famous Piazza del Duomo and the majestic glass-roofed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II hosted events dedicated to the International Women's Day.

We also traveled by train to Como city, a popular tourist destination next to the homonymous lake, with numerous works of art, churches, gardens, theaters, parks, palaces and an impressive cathedral. The serene scenery and its natural beauty has been a continuous source of inspiration for many writers, poets, composers and romantics while the shores of the beautiful Lake Como host aristocratic villas and numerous of famous residents.

Overall, the meeting in Italy was full of positive impressions because, firstly, the training program was particularly interesting, allowing the students to become more familiar with digital programming and with some of the most basic concepts of biochemistry and secondly, in our free time, we had the opportunity to share precious moments and knowledge of the history and cultural heritage of the area we visited.

The next destination of the P @ LS project is the city of Barcelos in Portugal, next May. See you there! :)
