Erasmus+: Students committed to European Society

Back from the next mission of Something for Nothing. The Erasmus+ project group has done a great job again!

It’s such a small world: Integration of refugees, sustainability in daily life, activities for teenagers and a pleasant life in your hometown – and in between the schools as places to learn and live. The same always and everywhere. Already at the first meeting in Weiden (Germany) in November 2016, the participants could report about similar experiences in their towns. At the second meeting in Vester Skerninge (Denmark) the focus was on regional pilot projects which are meant to strengthen the cooperation of school and society in the future.

Vester Skerninge is situated in the rural area of Svendborg and several institutions and clubs had tasks for the students from five different countries. The teenagers’ creativity and their experiences should help in solving these tasks. The coordination of these tasks was in the hands of Vester Skerning Friskole, and the international teams of students worked together with their mentor towards reasonable suggestions. The young learners analysed the status quo, developed a target, created an action plan, calculated the estimated costs and presented these scenarios to the contractees.

How did the tasks look like? The local council of refugee matters wants to find further possibilities for a successful integration of teenage migrants, the Self-sustainable Village wants to attract new inhabitants, sport clubs want to motivate teenagers to greater participation, the Scouts want to improve their publicity and the Youth Counseling wants to tackle its image problems.

The solutions? The participants made use of their experiences, abilities and possibilities to research thoroughly and conducted extensive polls. On top of that the teenagers’ media competence, creativity and the youngsters’ courage to think the “unthinkable”. The results were clear state of facts, unbiased analyses and wish-lists, newly designed internet presences or sample ideas for ecologically responsible housing on trial – estimate of costs included!

The reward? Manifold empirical knowledge, multifaceted appreciation and various new lessons learned for adult clients and teenage troubleshooters. Moreover, the pleasant anticipation towards new tasks waiting for the teams from November on in Agrigento/Sicily.
