Modern School Movement in Turkey

The Modern School Movement is an education model that was first started by pedagogue José Pacheco at the Escola de Ponte school in Portugal in 1976 and received positive reviews in the 2000 and 2009 education reports of the OECD. In this education model, students, parents and teachers actively and equally participate in determination, renewal, change and selection of curriculum. In this context, students are primarily responsible for being aware of their own needs and responsibilities, and this democratic socialization experience of students ensures that curriculum studies are supported by a motivating cultural participation of all stakeholders. Based on the meetings we held with teachers and parents, and the feedback we received from students, it is obvious that the educational tools and materials we have, especially during this epidemic period, are not interesting enough for students. If our students were their own teachers, would they choose the same resources and materials, or not?
