  • Short description

    Sometimes the story behind our town’s origin, what we call it, or even what we call ourselves, is even stranger than made up stories. Is there a funny, strange, or even gory story behind how your town was founded, its name, its inhabitants or a strange custom? It doesn’t matter if you live in a massive metropolis or a tiny hamlet. Tell us, please! We love a good story.

    1-18 (I thought about kindergarten too. We read stories in kindergarten so we can also ask them to draw)

     

    Subjects

    Foreign Languages (English, French, Polish…), IT/ Computer studies, Social sciences, History, Geography, Art...

     

    Aims

    We want to motivate students to use foreign languages. Talking about stories they know will make it easier for them to talk to other students because they have an idea of what to say, which is the first step to breaking the ice. They are also used to using IT equipment (hardware and software) but not always in the most appropriate way. This project intends to show them that a computer can be used to do more than play games or watch films. It will allow them to contact other cultures that may not be accessible to them in other ways.

    What about drawing and taking pictures and preparing a power point presentation in our mother tongue and English? OK, I have aready found the answer. We have to start with finding some legends from our region. We have some mine-legends (I live in a city where are a lot of mines). I thought that students could cooperate with kindergarten and children could draw some pictures. I thought that we will exchange work with our own legends. My students do not know legends from the region….:-(

     

     

    Work Process

    April-July 2016

    - Students start by giving some general information about the place they live in and posting it on Twinspace.

    - Schools will say which languages they will use so that the legends can be distributed and schools paired.

    September- November

    - Students write their legend in their native language and one other foreign language. The texts will be sent to the partner school and posted on Twinspace.

    November- December

    - Students will start work on their presentation of the partner school’s legend in one of the languages sent. They should be as creative as possible and use the means they want: video, Powerpoint, cartoon, picture book, or any other. They will contact the partner school to discuss their work, exchange additional information, decide on how they are going to work, schedule contacts,...

    January-March 2017

    - The presentations will be posted on Twinspace, next to the written versions.

     

    Expected results

    Presentation of the legends on Twinspace (text in the original language and a foreign language, and also an audio/ visual presentation).

    The presentations will also be shown to the school and local community, according to what is possible in each school.

    Depending on what each school has available, other products may be possible.
