Maya the Bee in the city of Skopje, R. Macedonia

On 14th March 2016, after a very long wait, Maya the Bee arrived in the city of Skopje, the capital of Republic of Macedonia. She came to our class from the beautiful town of Foca in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We were extremely excited to have her stay with us.

Before we tell you about her time with us, let’s introduce ourselves to you and tell you a bit about our school and city.

We are students in III-3 class at “Lazo Angelovski” primary school which is located in the Municipality Aerodrom in Skopje and it’s one of the biggest schools in our country. It was built in the year 1988. The premises of the school occupy an area of 4752 m2 whereas the school yard occupies an area of 12604 m2. The school also includes sport courts and fields that occupy an area of around 200 m2. The total number of students in the school year 2015/16 is 1377, even though this number used to be much higher in the past – reaching an unbelievable number of 2700 students in the school year 1993/94. Our school has its own emblem and school anthem.

Our classroom teachers are Marija Mateeva and Dragana Nikolova and our English teacher is Ljubica Ruzhinska, who is responsible for leading the eTwinning project “Maya the Bee travels around the world”. We use the extended stay at school and apart from normal school activities and homework we do other interesting things and have a lot of fun while in school. We made a video with some of the past activities we have done.

So now let us tell you about Maya’s stay with us.

On the first day we took her around our school so she can see it and introduce her to the other students in the school as well as some of the school teachers and staff.

On the second day Maya learned English with us. Our English teacher made a very interesting lesson for us. First we watch a short video about the movie, Maya the bee. Then we visited Maya’s website (www.maya.tv/en/) where we read about Maya and all her friends. We also learned about bees and how important they are for nature. We learned about how to save the bees because they are in danger of extinction.

After that, we played two games with Maya to help us practice English.

My bee family game from Ljubica Ruzinska

Mister to be game from Ljubica Ruzinska

After the lesson we took Maya for lunch at our school cafeteria.

During Maya’s stay with us, the weather was not great and since her stay was short we couldn’t take her around our beautiful city, but we decided to make a video with all the famous sites around the town. You can see the video

On the third day we took Maya to our school playground and to the near Kids Street where the memorial fountain “Toshe Proevski” is located. He was one of the most famous multi-genre singer, songwriter and actor who tragically died near Nova Gradiška in Croatia at the age of 26.

On the fourth day of Maya’s stay, we took her for a walk around our Municipality and to the nearby Park Avionche (Airplane).

At the end of the day we said our goodbyes with Maya. We were a little bit sad that her stay with us was short, but we had a lot of fun. We put her in the post box and send her off to her next destination. Happy travels Maya !!!!!!!!
