Don’t buy it! Do it yourself!

"Do it yourself" ("DIY") is the method of building, modifying, or repairing things without the direct aid of experts or professionals. Academic research has described DIY as behaviors where "individuals engage raw and semi-raw materials and parts to produce, transform, or reconstruct material possessions, including those drawn from the natural environment (e.g., landscaping)". Basically, DIY means that, instead of hiring a professional to do a particular task — or, instead of buying goods from a store or an artisan — you're choosing to do that task or create those products yourself with no direct help from an expert. With this project, we want to encourage our students to be producers rather than consumers. For example: growing your own tomato, making your own soap, writing your own storybooks and much more.
