Celebrating European Language Day (September the 26th)

This is how we celebrated the European Language Day in our school.

Celebrating "OXI" Day (October the 26th)

The 28th of October is a Greek National Holiday, celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world each year, to commemorate the rejection by Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas  of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on October 28, 1940.

This is how we depicted the Greek-Italian war through drawing.

We. the students od Class C', also created word clouds about peace and war.

    Celebrating Halloween (October 31st)

On October 31st we celebrated Halloween at school: we learnt about Halloween customs, drew, cut and stuck pictures and made our own pumpkins! We had so much fun as you can see for yourselves! Happy Halloween!

Celebrating the Athens Polytechnic Uprising (November the 17th)

The Athens Polytechnic Uprising in 1973 was a massive demonstration of popular rejection of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974. The uprising began on November 14, 1973, escalated to an open anti-junta revolt and ended in bloodshed in the early morning of November 17th after a series of events starting with a tank crashing through the gates of the Polytechnic.

As a result, the dictators sent armed policemen and soldiers to attack unarmed students...

Students of Class C' shared their thoughts in class about that day and the drawbacks of dictatorship. Here are some of their comments:

    • There is no freedom of speech and expression. People cannot express their opinion freely or protest about their problems.
    • Dictators take authority by force; people don't elect their representatives.
    • Dictators govern in a bossy, cruel and unfair way.
    • The civilians are having a very bad time. There is great unemployment. Schools cannot work properly. Everybody is feeling oppressed.
    • Anybody who dares to complain is arrested, imprisoned or exiled.
