  • CHRISTMAS IN PAMPLONA and NAVARRE:

Christmas in Pamplona is a wonderful time to enjoy the magic of the lights, the smell of roast chestnuts, the heart- warming traditions and customs, the customary "poteo" (bar hopping) and make the most of the wonderful atmosphere which, despite the cold, is ever present in the streets.

During this Time, the city is full of  fairs and local shops, whose festive window displays simply invite you to go inside.

It is a pleasure to walk around the city and visit:

    Castle Square Market:

    Townhall at Christmas:

About traditions, we receive presents from Olentzero, a ruddy-faced charcoal maker who, each Christmas Eve, comes down from the mountains to announce the arrival of Baby Jesus and to give out presents to the children. The procession, dressed in traditional costumes, accompanied by farm animals, zanpanzar (men dressed in traditional costumes, shaking cow bells), moves through the streets of the old quarter to the sound of well-known carols accompanied by txistus (flutes) and fanfarres (brass bands).

...and also the Three Wise Men visit us with a beautiful parade:

And the rest is enjoying delicious and copious meals with family and friends. And for the youngsters, the best day New Year´s Eve when everybody wears fancy dresses and enjoy all night long.
