IES TORRE DEL REY, Pilas (Sevilla) Spain

  • Our High School, the IES "Torre del Rey" in Pilas, (Sevilla) Andalucía, Spain, is a secondarybilingual school for students between eleven and eighteen years of age, where students can do Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and also Professional Training. We are at about 35 km. from the city, Seville.

We have about 550 students and 48 teachers, being six of them the members of our staff.

The name of our school comes from a long time ago, when in the XIII century our king Alfonso X, called Pilas "Tor del Rey", which means something like "tower of the King" and this is the name that we chose for it about twienty years ago.

We offer a bilingual teaching for the students who want to and this means that some of our non bilingual subjects are taught in English in at least 50% of the time of the class. We are also an ITC centre.

In general most of our students come  from Pilas, but we also reeceive in the higher levels students from the villages nearby like Villamanrique or Aznalcázar.

We try to give a complete education to our students teaching them apart of the curricula the important values for becoming worthwhile men and women in a near future. Languages are an imporant part in our curricula and this is why one of our mottos in our High School is "The limits of my language are the limits of my world". In the last two years we have had a Comenius Project with other five European schools and this gave us a wonderful chance to meet other peoples and cultures, apart from improving the English language.

Among the extra curricular activities we do is also the theatre and some of our students are very enthusiastic about it, apart from sports in genreal of course.

At the moment I am trying to carry out this interesting project called European Trends with my students of 4th year of ESO, who are about fifteen years of age.

I expect as teacher and coordinator that we get on very well all the countries and that we learn a lot from each other.

    Best wishes for every school!
