The IC Vivaldi School is an eTwinning school. It is located in Catanzaro, regional capital of Calabria, which lies between the mountains of Sila and the Ionian Coast of South Italy.
The city of Catanzaro is an important business, commercial and cultural center. It is the seat of the Government of the Calabria Region, of the First Court of Appeal, of the Regional School Office, of the Regional Military Command. The city has been home to the "Magna Graecia" State University since 1982.
Catanzaro has got some important and modern cultural structures, among which the new Politeama Theater, designed by Paolo Portoghesi, the museum area of the Monumental Complex of San Giovanni and the MARCA, Museum of Arts of Catanzaro, the Park of Mediterranean Biodiversity and the International Park of Sculpture.
Our economy is based on the Tertiary Sector, above all on seasonal tourism, and on some industrial activities. Along the coast there is an important archaeological site, the Scolacium Archaeological Park, with its museum. During the Greek colonization of South Italy, our territory was part of the area of the ancient Skylletion, later Scolacium, one of the most important colonies of Magna Graecia. Not far from Catanzaro there was another important Greek colony, the ancient Kroton, the actual Crotone, where around 530 BC the philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras founded his school.
Our school, named after "Vincenzo Vivaldi", teacher and writer from Catanzaro (b.1856/d. 1940) and established in the school year 2012/2013, consists of 7 complexes: three preschools, three primary schools and a lower secondary school. It has got a total school population of 1,488 units: 1,297 learners, 161 members of teaching staff, 30 members of non-teaching staff. The children of pre-school are between 3 and 5 years old. Primary school children range from 6 to 10. Students of Lower Secondary School attend class 1, 2 and 3 of a single school and are from 11 to 13 years old. The school population comes to a large extent from the territory of Catanzaro and the neighborhood of Catanzaro Lido.
