    Washington Irving was a really good writer in the year 1800s. He was born on April 3, 1783 in New York and died November 28, 1859 with 76 years. Some of his famous books are "Rip Van Winkle"and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". He lived in New York City. Washington's occupation was writing and reading books . Washington has 4 sisters and 5 brothers. He served as American ambassador to Spain in the 1840s. Irving was engaged to marry Matilda Hoffmann. She died of consumption on April 26, 1809, at the age of 17. Irving never became engaged or married anyone after the tragedy.

    Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm was born on Jan. 4, 1785, at Hanau in Hesse-Kassel. Wilhelm Carl was born on Feb. 24, 1786. They are from Germany. They were the oldest of six children. Jacob and Wilhelm went to school together in Kassel. They shared a room and were the greatest of friends.
    They both studied Law and were the best students in their class. They wrote down tales that they heard storytellers tell out loud and decided to publish them. The first volume of the tales was published in 1812.
