UN Sustainable Development: Goal 14 deals with the conservation and sustainable management of the oceans, seas and marine resources. Goal 6 deals clean water and sanitation. It is reported that oceans ‘contribute to poverty eradication by providing opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and work’. With more than 70% of the earth being covered in water, the role of the oceans is crucial to our planet. While people know that forests produce most of our oxygen, the fact that oceans and seas serve a very similar function is often overlooked. Learning will be based around the fundamentals of sustainable resources and the need to preserve the ecosystem. Students will learn and debate the different approaches followed by countries to protect the marine environment.
