The Institute of Higher Education "LICEI Canudo-Marone- ITI Galilei" of Gioia del Colle (BA) is the result of a sizing operation that saw the merger of the two Licei (Scientific and Classical) with the Istituto Tecnico Industriale, determining the creation of a formative-cultural pole of reference for a vast territory. Teachers and staff are 185. The school is attended by 1200 students coming from towns in the province of Bari and Taranto. Moreover, the students come from a heterogeneous social reality. Students belong to families with various economical backgrounds, but all share the desire to have a good preparation in order to face the difficulties of beginning a successful University life or start a good job.. Many students are at risk of social exclusion. Students tend to live in a limitless present, they don’t reflect about their recent past, even if there are national school days dedicated to the ‘memory’, they tend to think at the history only as a school subject and not as an important part of their life and above as a way to reflect about the wrongs of human beings to avoid in order not to live again trobles and misery. An experience in an European project could be useful for improving their knowledge of an outer reality, interact with students using technology, realize products, bettering their approach to school, school-life, territory and above all to understand the world they live in. In the end the experience could give them the opportunity to understand better the social, economic condition of their area and of other territories in Europe and the importance of youth commitment in improving the community life and their self- realization. The key people in charge of running the project willl be Pietrina De Giorgi, the Responsible of European Project, who teaches English.vIn case she leaves her post in the future, Giuseppa Maria Daprile will take over her role. The school is working a lot with European projects Erasmus KA2 and Erasmus KA1 in order not only to adopt innovative methods with the aim of developing a culture of initiative, entrepreneurship and self-employment, but also to allow teachers and students a refinement of organizational and interpersonal skills. The school has worked in the last 9 years in European projects and regional and national project with European funds covering a wide range of themes from social skills, unemployment, entrepreneurship, to traditions and ecology.
