    Our school :D

The Primary School No.1 is situated in the town centre. It is the oldest school in Bochnia. Its foundation, development and subsequent activity is linked directly to the medieval parish education, since the current school building stands on the land that was devoted to the parish school in the thirteenth century. Our school was associated with the Jagiellonian University of Krakow (one of the oldest universities in the world) since the sixteenth century, what indicates a high level of teaching. The school is successful in basketball and swimming. Our girls’ basketball team for the second time in a row has become the champion in the Malopolska district. Our students win gold medals on the national level each year. It is mainly achieved by the fact that our students train swimming from a very young age. It is possible thanks to cooperation with our local sports centre. The coaches from the above mentioned centre also train our basketball players.

The school mainly serves students from Bochnia, although it also welcomes students from some surrounding villages. Our students come from mixed socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Those, who come from very poor families have a limited opportunity to train sports and to travel abroad for economic reasons. They are eager to pursue their goals and contact other students from different countries of Europe.
There are also many families, in which parents have to look for a job far away from their homes (often abroad). We also have some students with special needs. We have to give them a specific support and offer new interesting and developing challenges so they could improve their learning.
The situation creates the need of finding different extracurricular activities for children. We cooperate with the school for children with special needs, by what we have been trying to familiarize children with the otherness. It also teaches acceptance, tolerance, empathy and solidarity. Such education forces the school to improve curricula and teaching methods.
Since our pupils have limited access to cultural and social activities – by this project and cooperation with the local community centre we would like to give them the opportunity to get know more about our European heritage and to feel strong amongst their own nation and the European community. They will develop communication abilities through real partnership from the different European countries. Because the primary world communication language is English, the students will be expected to express themselves in this language, or, if they are not able to, will be expected to find other ways of the communication.
