  • Please choose an event (or more from the list below. Then do the following activities:

    1) Research the event with your teacher. If you have time you could watch the films suggested:

    2) Prepare informative posters or presentations using postermywall.com or canva.com etc;

    3) Organise a celebratory event within your classroom/school where you teach  others about the importance of this day;

    4) Take photos and videos and upload them and your work on the next page;

    5) Reach out and organise synchronised communication activities with other project members.

    World Book Day

    World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.

    International Women’s Day

    International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

    World Poetry Day

    It celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity.

    International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

    In 1966 the United Nations declared the first Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to commemorate those who had been killed on 21 March 1960, whilst peacefully protesting against the Apartheid pass laws in South Africa.

    Earth Hour

    The annual Earth Hour lights out event is held worldwide toward the end of March to encourage individuals, households, communities and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

    World Health Day

    World Health Day is celebrated each year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 and to raise awareness about a public health priority.

    World Creativity and Innovation Day

     It is a global UN day celebrated on April 21 to raise awareness around the importance of creativity and innovation in problem solving with respect to advancing the United Nations sustainable development goals, also known as the “global goals”.

    World Book Night – Reading Hour

    Reading for pleasure is a globally recognised indicator in a huge range of social issues from poverty to mental health, yet in England alone, 36% of people don’t regularly read (DCMS, 2015).
     
    World Book Night brings people from all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire others to read more.

    World Oceans Day

    It is held every year on 8th June to raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet.

    ·   Give students a hands-on learning experience by hosting a field trip to an educational or engaging area. This could be visiting a local aquarium or zoo, going to the beach, or taking a walk at a nature reserve.
