Here is voice from Poland. This is our tradition. Every day we don't eat so many donuts ;-))
The Polish people will eat some 100 million donuts (in Polish ‘pączki’ ) today to celebrate Fat Thursday, traditionally observed in the last week of ‘carnival’ before Lent.A tradition lives to this day in Poland, which says that those who fail to eat a donut on Fat Thursday will bring misfortune upon themselves for the whole next year to come.Donuts are made of wheat-flour and yeast and filled with rose marmalade or rose petals grinded with sugar. Donuts can be also filled with fruits, pudding or jam. Filling is added manually when donuts are raw or injected after they are fried. In addition to jam-filled donuts, known as pączki, thin strips of crispy pastry dough, known as “faworki”, are consumed today in large quantities.
