    DESCRIPTION

“How is life going to be in 100 years' time if nothing is done to stop climate change?”

It is year 2121, life on Earth is about to disappear, nature is dying. If no steps are taken, there will be a total disaster: the end of humankind and all the living species. A group of very brave and heroic reporters from ClimACT News TV station have decided to take action and make a tremendous effort of traveling in time to try and save our planet. They have undertaken a very difficult and extremely risky mission of going back to year 2020 and try to rescue the Earth before it is too late. First they must do the research on the state of the environment in different parts of the world and then think of any solutions that can be introduced to change the course of events and save the planet.

    Work process

    DEVELOPMENT

This project will be carried out between March and June 2020 in very difficult conditions: schools are closed, so teachers and students will be working totally online from their homes.

Students will be organized in transnational teams. Each team will be responsible for a TV show about one of the three themes linked to Climate Change: Global Warming, Pollution, Deforestation.

Besides the project steps we will also try to follow the different phases of a project: Introduction of partners; Orientation; Communication; Collaboration; Evaluation & Assessment; Follow-up.

    PROJECT STEPS
    1. LEARN about it: watch videos; read articles; whenever possible arrange talks with experts; Virtual Field Trips (VFT); other Skypes connections learn about the living conditions of different countries from the people living there.

    2. GATHER and SHARE information.

    3. CREATE the news shows collaboratively; imagine the living conditions in 2121.

    4. ACT. How can we fight this back? What actions should we take? Which actions can every individual do? This aspect is now limited given the forced quarantine we’re all following. We will create an environmental online campaign instead.

    March 2020: LEARN. GATHER. SHARE.

    • get to know each other: record a little video on Flipgrid; video conference to present the teams and to present this project guidelines.

    • talk about the dangers our towns and countries are facing due to climate change (Skype, Flipgrid or live chat on TwinSpace). Talk about which changes their parents/grandparents have already noticed during their lifetime.

    • distribute students in transnational teams;

    • each team will work on a given assignment to produce a TV show about:

    1. Global warming, water shortage and drought

    2. Pollution - effects on biodiversity, air, water and plastic pollution

    3. Deforestation - wildfires, biodiversity loss, effects on air quality too

    • students use Wakelet collections to share videos, articles, photos or other images about these issues

    • students create a project logo (share files/photos with their teachers or upload into TwinSpace)

    • each team produces a TV show, writes the script, the news and reportings

April/May 2020: LEARN. GATHER. SHARE. COLLABORATE.

    • voting for the best project logo

    • teachers can arrange Virtual Field Trips, talks with experts, Skypes to learn about the living conditions of different countries from the local people, whenever possible

    • all the information will be shared on Wakelet, and on TwinSpace

    • teachers will facilitate the work of the teams by setting specific times to be online together, not only with their own students but also with the other partners’

    • teams start writing the news for their TV shows collaboratively

May/June 2020: SHARE. COLLABORATE. ACT (if possible). EVALUATE

    • students will finish and share their TV shows

    • all participants will answer an assessment form, not only to assess their own development but also to understand how well the project went given the extraordinary circumstances in which it was carried out

    EXPECTED RESULTS

Students will raise their understanding of the impacts of climate change on everyday life and learn how to prevent its consequences from getting worse by creating a TV news channel somewhere around year 2121 and launching an online campaign to raise awareness.
