    The Watchtower in Rožňava

The Watchtower is one of the most interesting sights of the historic centre of the town. Origins of the tower date back to the mid 17th century (1643). In 1766, the original tower burnt out and after the fire its upper Renaissance part was replaced by a Baroque wooden gallery and a shingle helmet-like roof. It fulfilled an important function, which fact is witnessed by the loophole preserved in its eastern wall and a Turkish cannonball in the southern facade. In 1997, the building was renovated and open to the public as a look-out tower. The Watchtower is 38 m high. After climbing the 144 steps, the visitors may enjoy a beautiful view of Rožňava and the surrounding hills. The tower has gradually become a symbol of the town.

    Manor house in Betliar

North-west of Rožňava in the east of Slovakia, in the valley of the Slaná river is the fairy tale-like manor house Betliar. It is surrounded by a wonderful English park with romantic structures including an artificial cave and waterfall. The park with the area of 57 hectares is one of the largest maintained parks in Slovakia and has been included in the list of the world historical gardens.
Its interior is equally interesting, as it contains a picture gallery, music and hunting halls, a library, antique furniture and exotic collections. Its reconstruction won a EUROPA NOSTRA award.
The appearance of the manor house from the 19th century has been preserved, with minor modifications, to the present day.
One of the most remarkable things about the manor house is its main library. More than 14 thousand volumes of literature from the 15th to 19th century written in 6 different languages have been preserved.

    Castle Krásna Hôrka

It is situated on top of the mountain, which dominates the Rožňavská kotlina basin. The main attraction is the embalmed body of Sophia Andrássy-Serédy, used as the motif of the mummy in the novel The White Lady of Levoča.
It was built around 1320. Three generations of the Andrássy family tried to obtain the Castle. The castle kitchen and the collection of arms are of special interest. The most precious exhibits are medieval and modern weapons, such as a bronze cannon from 1547 with a small barrel of gun powder and stock of cannon balls or castle rifles – harquebuses from the 18th and 19th century.
In the late 20th century, a medieval catapult was installed near the castle, which is used upon the “Castle Games” that are organized every year.
On the outskirts of the village there is a mausoleum in the Art Nouveau style with two sarcophagi of the Andrássy family.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rožňava

The church was completed in 1304. At the turn of the 15th century, the church underwent comprehensive rebuilding. During the 16th and 17th centuries the church was used by both Catholics and Protestants. With the establishment of the Episcopal See of Rožňava on 13 March 1776, the church became the cathedral of the new diocese. As a result, extensive interior modifications were made. I.e., the church was originally built without a tower, which was added in the 19th century.

    Our school

The first grammar school in Rožňava was founded by Jesuits in 1688. They called it the Gymnasium Archiepiscopale. In 1705 - 1714 the Jesuit school was closed. Since 1790 it became the foundation of the Royal High School Regium gymnasium maius Rosnaviense. Due to the abolition of the Jesuit Order in 1713, the Franciscans were taken over by the grammar school, followed by the Premonstratensians. Secular priests taught at the school. Between 1904-6, a new building of the Roman Catholic High School was built. In 1920, the Roman Catholic High School was renamed the State Real High School. In 1945, the building was nationalized and after the liberation of Slovakia, the school had a four-year grammar school, which in 1953 was transformed into an Eleven-year High School. In 1961, the school was renamed to High School of General Education, and classes with Hungarian as the language of instruction were added.

    Mining Museum in Rožňava

The Mining Museum, more than a century old, is one of the three specialized mining museums in Slovakia. Its mission is to preserve monuments of mining and metallurgy, together with other collections.

Exposition of mining and metallurgy in Gemer is located in an impressive purpose-built building from 1905, which is the oldest building for mining and metallurgical museums in Central Europe. In the geological - mineralogical part, there are rare minerals from the Gemer deposit areas. From mining and metallurgical technology, the visitor will get a comprehensive picture of the development of these fields, especially in the Gemer region.

The most valuable exhibits include medieval mining hand tools, a wooden mining pump, a trough, drilling, measuring and lighting technology.

An integral part of the exposition is formed by the Mining Workplaces where the visitor can get a concrete idea of the working conditions and the way the miners work underground.

    Multifunctional hall in Rožňava

The premises of the gym were designed to be used not only for the needs of school sports classes, but also for urban sports clubs. The basic dimensions of the floorboard are 21 x 41 m, the height of the gym is 7.7 m. There are 560 seats in the auditorium including a mobile device for the transport of immobile persons. There is also a universal computer-controlled notice board with parameters of international sports federations. If necessary, it is possible to use the gym area for several sports at once. This is made possible by a sling attached to the roof structure, which separates the individual sports grounds from one another if necessary. Behind the vestibule of the gym is the entrance hall, from which there is access to the gym, to two male and two female changing rooms. For teachers and referees there are separate rooms with sanitary facilities.
