Visit to Varna Courthouse

  • The Bulgarian participants in the project visited the Courthouse in Varna.
            What is happening in the building of the District Court - Varna, what does a judge do, what is the path of cases, where are the main actors in the courtroom - prosecutor, judge, lawyers and accused?  This is part of the new knowledge that  students learned from Ivanichka Slavkova - Deputy President of the District Court and head of the Criminal Division. Extremely fascinating and interesting was the information which she told about the work of the judiciary. Mrs Slavkova shared cases she had encountered in her nearly 30-year career. The students learned how the law is applied to children between 14 and 18 years of age, what is the responsibility after coming of age, under what conditions children are interrogated.
            A representative of the guarding team, who taks care of the order during the trials, escorts the detainees, and is responsible for the smooth running of the cases, shared interesting facts from his work.
            The visit to the district court is related to the planned activities under the module "Human rights - obligations and responsibilities" of the project. The aim is for young people to increase their knowledge of basic human rights and related responsibilities and to realize that disregarding or violating them reduces the quality of life at the individual, local and global levels, to increase their knowledge of common values ​​and the functioning of society.
