Meeting in Croatia - Apr2022

  • 18 students of the 3rd Lyceum of Galatsi:  Odysseas Agkos, Kostis, Garoufalias, Alesia Mousi, Marios Koumaris, Maria Akamiotaki, Marianthi Adamopoulou, Aristea Prifti, Stelios Paragioudakis, Marina Tsartiou, Nikos Dritsoulas, Giorgos Nomikos, Viktor Kampouris, Giorgos Konstantas, Isabella Giatrou, Isabella Sfyri, Maria Tzouma, Sofia Porikou, and Michaela Porikou with 6 teachers Siemos Konstantinos, Petrocheiloy Koralia, Nezi Maria, Maragoudakis Epameinondas & Korre Chrysanthi travelled to Cakovec - Croatia from 3rd to 9th April 2022 in the context of Erasmus project “TOURISM, ENOGASTRONOMY AND CULTURE”.

    Monday, 4th April  2022

    The meeting in Cakovec started with a warm welcome from the project coordinator, mrs Zelika Posavec Micic, her partners and the school’s principal. Since the meeting was about Tourism, enogastronomy and culture, the first part of the presentation was about these three areas of life in Međimurje County. The second part of the presentation concerned national parks and traditional dishes. The presentations on the same subject of the Italian and the Greek team were next.

     Except for presentations, Croatian students organized ice-breaking activities, which helped all the students and teachers to get to know each other and feel more relaxed in the new environment.

    On the first day, we went on a sightseeing tour around Čakovec. We visited the Old Town of Zrinski and the Museum of Intangible Heritage, Treasury of Medjimurje”. A general Sightseeing of Cakovec followed.

    Tuesday, 5th April 2022

    The activities held on the second day of the meeting took place in Dalmatia. We enjoyed a unique walking tour in Zadar, a UNESCO-listed historical centre: the Old City, Gate of the Earth, Square of the Five Wells, Jelena Madio Park, Church of Saint Simon, People’s Square, Church of Saint Grisogonus, Forum, Church of St. Mary, Church of St. Donato, Catedral of St. Anastasia. A coffee break allowed us to talk about all these wonderful sightseeings and their meaning for the culture of Croatia, listen to the unique sound of the Sea organ and enjoy a view of the beautiful sunset.

    Wednesday, 6th April 2022

    On the third day of the meeting, we spent the morning on a sightseeing tour at Krka National Park Waterfalls – cascading natural wonders

    We admired Skradinski Buk Falls – one of Croatia’s most famous sights as it is the largest travertine waterfall in Europe

    We also admired exceptionally diverse flora and fauna (over 200 species of birds)

    We visited Ethno village which has got a 700-year-old watermill and stopped for a view of the 2,000-year-old town of Skradin located within the Krka National Park river canyon. Since the meeting was about Tourism, enogastronomy and culture, we started for Sibenik, where we could taste  Oil and Wine tasting in one of the wineries in the area and have Lunch at a local konoba Roca. So we had the opportunity to learn many things about oil and wine production from the producers and try dishes based on local ingredients, given a unique eno-gastronomy product with the “seal” of Croatia.

    Thursday, 7th April 2022

    We visited Trogir City. We walked along the waterfront by the city walls & towers, and we entered the city from the Gate of the Sea. We admired the Renaissance Chapel of St. Sebastian, the City Clock Tower, the City Hall, the City Loggia, and the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. We also visited Split City. We were guided to Diocletian’s Palace, one of the world’s best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. We went sightseeing in the Peristyle square, the Temple of Jupiter, the Pjaca (main square), the Marmon street, the Statue of Grgur Ninski, Prokurative (Republic square) and the Riva Promenade. Walking among unique cultural heritage sites and listening to their history, we realized the depth and value of Croatian culture and history and we discovered common elements in the cultures of the three countries that connect us. Βefore the end of the day, we walked up the Marjan hill, the lungs of Split, and we enjoyed the panoramic views over the city.

    Friday, 8th April 2022

    The last day of the visit started with the departure from Zadar to Biograd na Moru for an excursion to the Kornati National Park. On a wonderful boat trip of four hours, we admired the panoramic sightseeing of the Kornati Islands System, which is of 150 islands and 80 meters tall vertical cliffs. After a wonderful day in nature with guided tours, discussions and activities in the most beautiful natural landscapes, we returned to the Gospodarska school to «write the epilogue» to this unique program- portrait of Croatian culture.
