Explanation for visitors

    Here is the explanation of our project:

     

    Two schools took part in this project:

     

    • A school from Italy, Sicily : ITSCG "G. Tomasi di Lampedusa", Sant'Agata Militello
    • A school from France : Lycée Jean-Pierre Timbaud, Brétigny sur orge

     

    Students were all vocational advanced students studying topography.

     

    We organized them in teams composed of French and Italian students.

     

    They first worked with their English teachers to prepare videos. Instead of simply introduce themselves, they had to introduce their friends. They edited their films using Windows Movie Maker. The films were then posted for their partners to watch them.

     

    After watching the films, students had to prepare a portrait of their French or Italian partners, using a word processor. In order to get more information about their partners, they used the forum on Twinspace.

     

    Meanwhile, they prepared riddles with their topography teachers. They could  choose to create puzzles with the name of the places or with problems to solve:  lines or circles intersections, three-bearings, polar coordinates, … The riddles were translated in the English class.

     

    They then exchanged on the forum to ask for more information and to give the solutions to the riddles. Once they knew they had guessed the riddles correctly, it was time to prepare records about the “mysterious” places. All the records were gathered in a virtual book.

     

    It was a great opportunity for students to practice their technical English and to understand that speaking English is sometimes the only solution to communicate with foreigners.

     

    It was also very nice for both French and Italian teachers of topography and English to be given a chance to work together.
