IT'S CARNIVAL TIME! Customs and masks

  • Dear friends ,carnival time has started in Greece too!

The last day of our carnival is on March 10th .The next day(11th of  March) is called Clean Monday and it is the first day of lent(40 days before Easter).

During  last Sunday of carnival, there are parades in every city and town of Greece.Clean Monday is a holiday(schools closed) and we don't eat meat then.We fly kites and eat sea food.

That's why our carnival is named Apokries which means  something like: end of  eating meat.

The following video is about some traditional masks.

Of course kids like wearing other costumes and these masks are part of traditions that are kept alive

in many parts of our country.
