PICTURE SMART (Puzzle, LEGO, Map reading, Taking photos, Using VR, Gravity painting)

People who are picture smart enjoy art activities. They are good at drawing. They like doing puzzles, mazes and building things in 3D. They are good at reading maps and charts and like watching movies.

    TOPICS:

    1. Engineering

Working with LEGO CLASSIC bricks we can create a bright and colorful world of moving models and fun functions. However only a few of us would ever think of using it for mathematics and in fact, once you search for LEGO CLASSIC for Mathematics, Google gives a (shocking) result of 20,000,000 websites!!!?

Well, it is great to know that we can find great selection of educative materials online around this topic, but I would like to encourage you all to join us in organising a fun filled LEGO Classic for Mathematics (Live) Competition with the help of Skype.

I mentioned this idea at our TPM meeting and would like to repeat our offer again for you all. It would not take more than 30 minutes and we can have it for different age-groups. Our FS/KS1 teachers are more than happy to join in and I work with older ones, P5/P6.

If anyone interested in participating, please message me on TS or Skype/FB and we can have it organised for late November, maybe early December 2018.

    Thanks,

    Balazs

In the months of January and February we are working on designing our own boardgames using basic electrical circuits. It all started with a research on the topic, a discussion on the design and its usability.

This is only the first few videos on our development, but surely we enjoy every minute of this activity.

Giving students the opportunity to learn by playing is really enjoyable

Children playing with bricks develop creativity, emotional intelligence and learning

Building tougher bridges has been one of the students' goals. The strategies have been shared and we have found great moments of sharing!

The construction of engineering works was really fun.The children have challenged each other, but also helped. The learning has been more meaningful.

Another challenge we embraced in our classroom: Creating labyrinths. To create them, it was necessary to use imagination and creativity! - José Soares

In the month of September we started our project with a STEM focused Engineering activity in our P6 class. To help our partner schools, all the necessary lesson plans and manuals were uploaded to the relevant Folder under Materials/Files.

We started with The Women in Engineering activity, which was a great research project for a wide range of age-group. We looked up local/national and international female engineers and talked about their achievements. - Balazs

The construction of 3D bursts are great challenges for students of the lower age brackets. With this project we have managed to pose very interesting challenges! Everyone needs to work together for the final results to be achieved. There have been some very interesting moments! - José Soares

Each time we make a 3D challenge our students are happy. The spirit of mutual aid is more and more present and the results are getting better! The learning is more meaningful and the students with more skills always help those who need it! - José Soares

Building bridges has never been an easy task, nor for real engineers! In the room, the different groups outlined a strategy and together they did their best to build a great bridge! For the week we will try to increase the size of the bridges with the same materials! - José Soares

    2. Drawing Shapes

Our students' ability to concentrate was put to the test in the decal of frightening images for the decoration of our hall for the Halloween party. Scary figures and colors were chosen! - José Soares

Reading and interpreting images has been a constant challenge in our classroom. To solve the mysteries it has been necessary to work in groups and investigate to find the solution.

Halloween was another opportunity to challenge the creativity of students to design the scariest home possible. For this task was added the luck dictated by a given. this activity motivated the students immensely for the learning that followed!

Taking advantage of the skills of our students is what this project has taught us. With expressive ability students are more interested and learn better! - José Soares

Cut, paste, draw were the most used verbs during these weeks. Each student's abilities came up when they had to assemble and build their posters and posters. Again the results were wonderful. - José Soares

For students interested and willing to discover it is necessary to meet interesting challenges! And how about an image with two views !!! - José Soares

Giving students the opportunity to express themselves through the construction of posters and the use of different techniques of collage and clipping has been an added value for the development of other skills and for the acquisition of knowledge - José Soares

    3. Building

In the month of December we decided to focus on building Santa`s Sleigh, a Christmas themed house with full lights and decoration and finally our own Christmas Tree made of wood sticks! :) - Balazs

We have started our project with a STEM focused Engineering activity in our P6 class. All necessary documents can be found/downloaded from the relevant Folder under Materials/Files.

    4. Puzzle

    5. LEGO Classic

José Soares - Portugal - Working with Legos offers a great ability to develop emotional intelligence and significantly improve student learning.

José Soares - Portugal - In the days that we worked with lay people the results improved. the students worked more as a team and the challenges were overcome with greater failure

    .

José Soares - Portugal - Stirring and building with lay people has always been a great challenge for students. Joining lay people to math classes can only result in a cheerful and highly motivating lesson. This way the mathematical contents are better learned!
