    Our comments on the stereotypes about Finland:

    Finland
    Santa Claus lives in Finland.
    True. Even though Santa Claus is fictional character he lives in Finland with Mrs. Claus and reindeers in an area called Korvatunturi.
     
    People drive reindeers with sleighs.
    Not true. We drive normal cars and other vehicles like in every other country, but we did drive with sleighs before cars almost 100 years ago but with horses.
     
    Finns are passive, not very sociable.
    True and not true. We usually don’t talk to the people that we don’t know, but some of us do. However, we talk with people that we know and I think that Finns are sociable.
     
    Schools are the best in Europe and teachers don’t give us marks until the age of 14.
    True. In Finland, we have the best schools in Europe, but maybe all students don’t think like that, and some students don’t get marks until the age of 14, but I did get marks when I was at the fifth grade, before that I only got points (like 19/24 and like that).
     
     
    Everybody can ski in Finland.
    True and not true. Almost everybody in Finland can ski and we even train skiing at school so we can ski, but some of us hate skiing and they never ski again after school.
     
    Finland is very cold
    Not true. When there’s winter in Finland, there’s very cold in some parts of Finland (like in Lapland there might be -30 Celsius sometimes) but in the area where I live there’s in about -10 Celsius when it’s winter. However when it’s summer In Finland there might be +30 Celsius in some places.
     
    Nokia is from Finland
    True. Nokia is from Finland.
     
    There are more than 60 000 lakes in Finland
    True. Actually there’s almost 200 000 lakes in Finland.
     
    People drink a lot of beer.
    True. In average every people above age 15 drinks more than 11 liters of 100 % alcohol every year, but there is also people that don’t drink alcohol at all. /Juho

    -Yes, Nokia is also city in Finland.
          Finns are passive and not vey sociable.
                -It is not always true. Some people are very social and kind.
         There are more than 60 000 lakes in Finland.
               -Yes, here is many lakes.

               -Yes, mostly men drink a lot of beer and they get very drunk. /Olivia

    People drivw reindeer with sleighs: I haven´t never seen reindeer so it´s big false.

    Finns are passive, not very sociable: Maybe at first, but when you start to know them more, they are pretty talkative and sociable.

    There are more than 60 000 lakes in Finland: There are 187 888 lakes in Finland.

    Everybody can ski: True, everyone can ski because we have ski in school´s PE class.                          /Suvi

      PARTLY TRUE  -People in Finland don’t drive reindeer in the southern parts of Finland. In Lapland some people drive reindeer with sleighs, but only in Winter when there is snow.

      NOT TRUE  -Finns usually only talk when they have something important to say, and we don’t like small talk. Finns are a bit shy when you meet them for the first time, but when you get to know them, they talk a lot more. Some people are passive, some are more sociable – it depends on the person.
       
    6. Schools are the best in Europe and teachers don’t give you marks until the age of 14.
      TRUE –Schools are really good and probably the best in Europe.
      NOT TRUE  -We get written evaluation in the 1. grade. In the 3. grade we started to get “real marks”.
       
    7. Everybody can ski.
      TRUE  -Almost everybody can ski, (cross-country and downhill) because in school’s PE class everybody skis. Many people don’t like it though… But that’s a different thing.
       
    8. There are more than 60 000 lakes in Finland
      TRUE  - But actually there are more than 187 000 lakes in Finland.
      Many people have a summer cottage near a lake.
       
    9.  People drink a lot of beer.

    We drive cars and other vehicles, like normal people do. In the north pole some people may ride reindeers but only in the winter.
    Finns are passive, and not very sociable. PARTLY TRUE
    We have get to know the person we are talking to before we can share our deepest secrets with them. Finns are often shy with strangers, but when we get to know them better we are pretty sociable.
    Everybody can ski. TRUE
    Thanks to the snow, almost everyone can ski.
    Kids learn to ski in the first grade (seven years old). We ski in school every winter, because it’s a part of the finnish learning plan. /Helmi

    -          A little bit true. Some Finns are very unsociable and passive but some people aren’t. If you are alone in the bus for example, nobody is not going to sit next to you if they don’t have to.

    -          True. Finns drink beer a year, an average of 85 liters per person. In the whole world Finns drink beer nine-most.

    -          True. There is more than 187 888 lakes in Finland.

    True, more than 60 000 lakes. But I think that there is almost 200 000 lakes in Finland. People like swimming there in summers a lot and somebody goes swimming in winters, too. Then water is very cold, but somebody likes that a lot.

    True, almost everybody.  Somebody can`t ski. But we ski at schools every winter in our sports lessons. But not all of Finns ski every year and someone doesn`t never ski.

    True/not true. I think that in Southern Finland people don`t drive reindeer with sleighs. I don`t know that what they do in Northern Finland. But I think so that they drive reindeer with sleighs maybe in winter, but I am not very sure about that. I haven`t ever driven reindeer with sleighs.

    True/true not. Santa Claus doesn`t exist? But we think in Finland that he lives in Korvatunturi in Lapland in Finland.

    True/not true. I think that everyone here isn`t like that. Some Finns are sociable and aren`t passive. But I know that most of Finns are just too shy to talk visitors.

    Not true. We get marks when we are in the 5th grade.
    “ Finland is very cold”
    True/ not true. In summers there is pretty warm maybe 15-28 C. But in winters there is pretty cold like -10 C more or less.

    True. I´ve never seen anybody here who is old enough to go to school, but still can´t ski.

    Sometimes true. Sommers are pretty warm, but winters are cold.

    Used to be true. Nokia was a Finnish company until it was bought by Microsoft in 2014.

    True. There about 128 000 lakes in Finland
