a) Organizational and structural issues about the mobility
Mobility-product
Scientific newspaper (special issue) on transhumanism-related scientific (biological, philosophical, ethical, informatics, robotics) content.
- online and (maybe) printed version
Support from the teachers that will go to Budapest
Suggestion from Michaela, that there are also fixed responsibilities for the teachers, so i.e.:
Work will take place in 2-3 rooms à in every room there should be a responsible teacher for
- Organisation of the work
- Content (for the experts)
- How the support is structured
As I remember for each group there will be 3 teachers for support. From each school one teacher.
- Compare to b) open issues
Michaela suggested to have a presentation about selbstregulierte Lehrnen. She accepted to make it. It would be good to have it on Monday at the beginning of the work.
Tentative schedule:
Sunday: arrival
Monday: morning: meeting with the redaction of hetek concerning structural aspects (compare to the next point).
afternoon: discussion in working groups: what will be the outcome, decide how many articles could be written per group and decide about the topic of articles and share the task among the studnets
Tuesday: morning: visit robotic-company; afternoon: work groups
Wednesday: morning: visit biology research center (cell biology); afternoon: work groups
Thursday: morning: work groups; afternoon: discussion about transhumanism questions are prepared by teachers (lead article?)
Friday: morning: presentation of the articles (?); afternoon: visit of different museums
In Budapest there are so many interesting places to see I suggest to devote the whole Friday for sightseeing. But if you prefer listing to presentation about articles it can be. J
Saturday: departure
One day we would invite a brain researcher. 2 hour long.
Structure of the student working groups
The students will be given some kind of roadmap according to the roles that have to be fulfilled in editorial work (manager editor, leader of sections, journalist, scientific expert, corrector, media editor/designer, web editorial).
Due to the content, that is divided into 3 main-categories (see below), there will be ca. 15 students per main-categorie.
Because the size of each working group should be 4 to 5 students from different countries, the articles to each of the 3 main-categories become also divided into at least 3 sub-articles that lead to the main-topic.
The students in the working groups in each of the main topics decide and structure for themselves how to set up the main-article made of 3 up to 5 sub-articles each made by 5 or at least 3 students (compare above).
The formation of the groups depends on the preparation-work the students will do in advance at their schools.
In the middle or at the end of the week working groups are separated and mixed together in approx. 3 groups. They become confrontated with general and philosophical aspects of transhumanism and have to debate on this. If there is enough time and ressources, they should write a lead-article to the all-connecting topic of transhumanism.
Surveys could be implemented into the articles (beauty industry for example); have to be done before and then maybe compare the different results
Topics:
The topic of transhumanism is the basic issue, which guides the other topics, especially the philosophical dimension.
The topic of science fiction is an aspect, which can be mentioned in every other topic
Main topics:
- gene manipulation
- Plants, animals à food
- Humans
- Medical aspects
- gene doping
- artificial intelligence
- robotics/biotronic
- artificial vs. human intelligence (eg. in transport)
- beauty industry
- designer-babies
- doping (common day doping)
- obsession with beauty/perfectionism
Suggestions for more sub-divisions:
Zsolt: human intelligence in an artificial body à stop aging
Robert: shortening of the telomeres of chromosomes à stop aging
- In relation to transhumanism, personal identity, beauty industry
Time to write the articles (compare to tentative schedule):
Monday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning
Age of students:
Problem: the students from Italy, that worked in riva have an advantage to drive to Budapest. But they are more or less around the age of 16 to 18. The german students are more or less at the age of 15.
Decision: the age of the students that will take part will not be prescribed
Accommodation:
Question: Near to the school (walking by feet) or more in the outwards/the hills or in the city-centre
Decision: city-centre
transport in Budapest:
Public transport system (week-ticket approx. 12 EUR per student (studentcard ID necessary))
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
b) Contents: open issues
Teacher questions: Who is responsible for the questions for the transhumanism-discussion? Who is responsible for the scientific background, who for beauty and who – of the teachers – for artificial intelligence
- Teachers with responsibility for each topic have to be found in every of the three countries (i.e. gene-manipulation-expert, artificial-intelligence-expert, beauty-expert)
- Other responsibilities (compare to a) Organizational and structural issues)
c) preparatory work: schedule
Suggestion: let’s make a list for students on our project webpage about sources could help for preparation (not only scientific books, articles but novels and movies too)
Preparation work:
- to gain a global understanding about transhumanism
- students will select one of the three main topics and they dig deeper into it. The students will force to share the topics equally among each other, so it will be able to make international groups in Budapest.
- they do not have to write articles at home but they could prepare for that eg. making questionairs or collecting pictures or making shorter interviews could embedded into article.
Preparation work will be organised by countries. During preparation it won’t be cooperation of students.
