Art as a Language

Art as a Language is a project dedicated to students aged 12 - 15. The main objective is to allow students from different countries, backgrounds and beliefs to learn about other cultures and realize through art their common ideas, thoughts, wills, feelings, but also their differences. Through a song we might tell a story, through a dance we might present culture and through a painting we can demonstrate. Therefore, through a different context (dancing, painting, music, architecture) we are able to use all our senses and skills and form a kind of sensitivity to the beauty of the world. At the same time we share and acknowledge the rich cultural, natural and historical heritage of Europe to which all countries contribute and to which we all belong. At first we take a few snaps of imposing Gaudi architecture in Barcelona to see what splendid artworks people can do. Next we go on to practise stage movement while dancing Bulgarian folklore. Then we attentively listen to a Chopin concert at his birthplace in Poland, giving a tribute to his artistry. Finally, we photo Cypriot artifacts and paint murals in a Cypriot-styed way. Meanwhile, at our schools, we do research on art and do art itself too.
