    13th - 19th May, 2019

    MONDAY,

    13th May

     

    The Travelling Day

    Arrival in Riga:

    Belgian team 13.05; Rumanian team 13.25; Polish team 13.25

     

    14.00 – 18.00 sightseeing in Riga (the Old Town, Art Nouveau Riga, free time in Old Riga).

    ~ 20.00 arrival in Strenči *

    * lunchbox and a drink provided while travelling to Strenči or before we start sightseeing.

     

    TUESDAY,

    14th May

     

     

    The Permaculture Day

    Morning:

    8.30 meeting in the Strenci Secondary School – welcoming participants, performances by Latvian students, ice breaking activities around the school, language activity “Say it in Latvian”, photo orienteering in town.

    12.15 lunch** most of the meals – school canteen.

    13.00 meeting the mayor Janis Petersons at the local municipality (Strenči).

     

    Afternoon:

    14.00 workshop in the home- made chocolate factory “R Chocolate”.

    16.00 visiting the farmstead Lejas Variceni (Smiltene region) - getting to know principles of perma culture, working with the clay, outdoor activities, picnic.

    ~ 19.30 arrival in Strenči.

     

    WEDNESDAY, 15th  May

    The Raft Building Day

    Morning:

    8.30 meeting in the school.

    10.00 - …..building the raft together with the Gauja river international rafts men’s team https://youtu.be/QoWPtxIjbj4 (Building the raft 2016); picnic at the river Gauja.

     

    Afternoon:

    Drama classes - Latvian legends and fairy tales in English; working in mixed nationality groups; working on installation to create them for the contest; drama contest.

    ~ 18.00 dinner at the school canteen.

     

    Evening:

    Workshop: Latvian folk dances.

     

    THURSDAY, 16th May

    The Sightseeing Day

    8.30 meeting in the school.

    9.00 departure to SIGULDA – Latvia`s most visited and most beautiful city – a trip to the past and the top destination for adventure activities.

     

    Objects to visit: The Turaida castle and museum reserve, The Gutman`s sandstone cave, hiking to the Krimulda manor house, the cable car trip over the river Gauja, taking part in Baltic jewellery and Walking-stick`s workshops in the New Castle of Sigulda, the bobsleigh and luge track Sigulda, hiking in the Gauja National park – Satesele castle mound, the Peter`s cave, the Paradise hill, the river Vejupite sandstone valley.

    Optional: Sigulda Toboggan track is formed on one of the steepest slopes in Latvia. The track runs on the rollercoaster principle and allows for speeds of up to 40km/h, which everyone can limit with the use of brake handle. The length of the track is 400m.

    ~ 19.00 arrival in Strenči.

    FRIDAY,

    17th May

    The Rafting Day

    Morning:

    8.30 meeting in the school;

    9.30 taking part at 9th grade “The Last Bell” school’s ceremony before the final exams;

    11.00 lunch at school;

    12.00 Recreational rafting on a wooden raft (the river Gauja), getting to know the natural beauty of the region.

     

    Late afternoon, evening:

    voluntary work for the charity event to raise money – students prepare their national dishes or/and handicraft workshops.

    ~ 18.00 dinner at the school canteen.

     

    SATURDAY, 18th May

     The Raftsmen’s Festival Day

    Morning:

    10.00 - …….taking part at the Rafting Festival – open air concerts, workshops, outdoor activities, the charity event – selling the products in the market (https://vimeo.com/95860494 , The Festival Day 2014).

     

    Afternoon:

    visiting the animals shelter in Valmiera (donation procedure).

    Evening:

    Farewell party together for all participants.

     

    SUNDAY

    19th May

     

    The Farewell Day

    Morning:

    official ending of the Latvian week.

    10.30 departure to Riga (all teams together).

    12.30 arrival at the airport (adieu from Polish team).

    Trip to Baltic Sea coast (city Jurmala) for Belgian and Rumanian teams.

    15.00 arrival at the airport Belgian and Rumanian teams.

    Departures of teams from Riga International airport:

    Polish team 14.05; Belgian team 16.40; Rumanian team 18.30.

    Homework:

    prepare recipes for cooking national dishes, make the list of ingredients needed (send it to the partners in Strenči by 11th May) OR something different (activity, handicraft product) for the charity event during the Raftsmen`s Festival on 18th May.
