  • Italy... enjoy this video!

    Our region: Emilia-Romagna

    Our city: Cesena

Cesena is a beautiful City located in the north of Italy, near the east coast, not far from Bologna and particularly close to Rimini.
Its location can be considered strategical, as it is just a few kilometers from the seaside and around 45 minutes by car from the mountains. Being so, you can enjoy both summer and winter vacations without going far away!

Staying in Cesena is also nice! It has a quite small city center and various neighborhoods which locate in the surrounding area, and it is crossed by a quite famous river: Fiume Savio.
Even if it is small, it offers a variety of activities, so you will not get easily bored!

The city center is very nice: it has both new and historical buildings such as: “Rocca Malatestiana”, “Malatestiana Library” and the Masini fountain, which are the main tourist attractions. There are also a lot of small local shops selling many types of products and some very good restaurants.

I personally think that the city center is pretty nice at night thanks to the lightening, that creates a romantic atmosphere, especially in the main square “Piazza del popolo”.

The surrounding neighborhoods mainly offer parks and shopping centers, but there are also a couple of swimming pools, one of which is indoor and is open in winter as well, a hippodrome and a skate park.

Cesena offers also a lot of good restaurants, where people can enjoy the specialties of Romagna, but that is not all! A lot of restaurants also offer food from all over the world, like Greek, Asian and American food, including healthy specialities and low-fat plates. There is also a selection of restaurant that cook vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food.
Talking about food, something that people enjoy, especially during summer, is the great Italian Gelato! In fact there are  “Gelaterie” (which means “gelato shops”) almost everywhere, and since it is delicious, people buy it also during winter. Another extremely popular food is Piadina, which can be found almost everywhere in small shops called “chiosco”, it is very similar to bread and it is stuffed with different types of ham, vegetables and cheese.

A nice city center, a lot of activities, delicious food and interesting places to visit: this is Cesena! Next time you plan a trip to Italy, make sure to spend some days here and enjoy your vacations in Romagna’s heart ❤

Cesena is the city for student.
    Why?
Well, firstly almost all high schools and universities take place near the station, because of this many students are able to arrive to the bus and to the train station in time.
It might seem that it’s not that important, but actually it is, because most of the students arrive from towns and cities which are 1h far from Cesena or even more. So managing to take the bus or the train immediately is the key.
Secondly, Cesena is frequented by so many students because it has one of the best schools and universities, which provide for our good education.
The city is also able to offer places for studying, like Malatestiana Library.
It’s full of useful books for school and also it’s the point where all the students can stay together to work on different projects and simply do their homework.
This place is very convenient for everyone, for those who live far from Cesena and the ones who actually live there.
If we need to do any kind of projects we remain in Cesena and find different places to have lunch.
You can find everything it tastes you better: pizza, pasta, sushi, Asian food or fast food. If you are stressed or tired you can get the best cappuccino that you’ve ever tasted with a delicious peace of cake in Pappa Reale bar, which is also a meeting point for young people.
So, as you can see, Cesena responds to all your needs.

The Biblioteca Malatestiana is another singular example. It is the world’s first monastic humanist library. It is as it was. Even the uniquely carved door, produced in 1454 still protects the treasure of books inside the reading room. In 2005 UNESCO included the Library in the Memory of the World Programme Register.

To this day the door requires two keys. Originally, one key belonged to the abbot, the other by a representative of the city; the sacred and the profane. Malatesta Novello entrusted this library to the municipality of Cesena, making it the first public library.

The Piazza del Popolo (Popolo s Square) is located the heart of Cesena, and it offers some of the most interesting town sights, for example the Fair of San Giovanni and the market. In the middle of the square there stands the Fontana del Masini (Masini's Fountain). On the southern side of the square there stands the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall).

The Rocca Malatestiana (Malatestian stronghold) is a fortress in Cesena. The current structure is the third fortress built in the place, near the ruins of the two previous ones, of late-Roman and medieval age. very famous is the "Ghost Corridor it has the loopholes obstructed by the building of the external building that served as the prison kitchen, offices and caretaker's house. In the latter part on several occasions, paranormal phenomena would have occurred

    Nightlife in Cesena.
Cesena is a city for young people, in fact during the winter the numerous pubs and discos of this city are very frequented. Being an university town during the weekend the nightclubs are crowded, where people meet to spend a night of fun. But the history of nightlife has made by historic and fascinating places such as the enchanting Verdi Theater and the “rocky” Vidia, that everyone knows.
During the summer it is ideal for musical concerts and events. In 2015 in Cesena there was a big event, which was "Rockin' 1000" . The idea was born in 2014 with the project of bringing the band Foo Fighters in our city. A group of one thousand people played a song to convince the band to make a concert in cesena, and they have succeeded. This event became famous all around the world and it was successful.
So we can say that cesena is a city, where people can have fun and numerous opportunities to partecipate in events.

The Bonci Theatre is one of the main Italian historical theatres. It was built between 1843-1846, a project by Vincenzo Ghinelli, with a neoclassical facade recalling Piermarini and an interior with 4 grounds and gods, whose decoration is due to Francesco Migliari. The stage is one of the gratest in Europe, the acustic is quite perfect: this made the 'Bonci' very appreciated to actors and singers. Prose and research, dance, opera and concerts: everything is offered by the 'Bonci'.
Moreover it was dedicated to the great tenor from Cesena Alessandro Bonci after his  performances of 1904 and 1927.
Concluding this theater is a member of the Italian route section of the European Route of Historic Theatres.
