Learning activity in Poland

  • Zespół Szkół "Silesia" in Czechowice-Dziedzice, Poland, was a host of the first learning activity in the project. On the 14-18 April 2015 all the partner schools met there to learn, how to use Prezi and Glogster, take part in the Maths Foot Orienteering event, and visit important sights in Kraków, Czechowice-Dziedzice, Bielsko-Biała, KL Auschwitz in Oświęcim. The visit was also a great opportunity to meet personally and make friendships.

The students and teachers were welcomed by the
head teacher of the school, Mr Kazimierz Borawski, the Member of the Polish Parliament, Mr Sławomir Kowalski, the representatives of the local authorities, Mr Stanisław Pięta and  Mrs Barbara Adamska, and by the school coordinators of the project – Mrs Magdalena Czarnecka and Mr Tomasz Figura. The school Big Bend and the band Rocker Soul performed during the opening ceremony. Then, the schools presented their institutions using several tools: PowToon, Moovly, Power Point, Prezi, and Movie Maker.
During the Prezi and Glogster workshops the students created their presentations about the visit in Poland and the virtual postcards from Poland.
The Maths Foot Orienteering competition connected the use of new technology with Maths and sports activities. For most of the participants it was the first contact with this discipline.
The students and teachers had also possibility to visit Wawel, the Old Town, the Main Square and the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków. The exhibition “Following the traces of European identity of Kraków“ is enriched with interesting models and multimedia – touchscreens, holograms, projections and documentary films presented in the spaces of the cellars under the Cloth Hall arranged especially for that purpose.
The visit to the Auschwitz Museum of holocaust was a sad, but educative excursion enlightening the history and the culture of Poland.

The visit was a very emotional experience for the students, who promised to come back to Poland. Thanks to the IT tools and social media, the communication between the participants may be continued and developed.
The next visit is planned to be held in Bedekovčina, Croatia, in June 2015.
