Activity 3: Plan for organising Refugee Week

  • REFUGEE WEEK

    TEAM WORK

    DAY 1: VIDEO CONFERENCE.

After the video conference the students will log on and will find their partners for the project. A group of 4 may be easier to coordinate.

The students will get this day the questions they need to find an answer for and they will split the work between the members of the group. The information should appear in Spanish and English.

    SUGGESTION:

They divide the work and they do their part in Spanish and English. They can correct each other’s spelling and grammar.

The students are expected to meet on the platform at some point during that week to check that they are doing the right thing and put together a power point.

The students have then a deadline to present the power point. They can meet on their own time as regularly as they want.

The best power point with the information about refugees will be shown to all students in the school and the partner schools during refugee week. This will be an informative power point on the issues of refugees and forced migration.

DAY 3: We see the power points and vote for the best one.

    Criteria:

    1. Good definition of refugees and forced migration
    2. Mention the two countries and the differences and similarities approaching this issue.
    3. Call for Action. Stating the reasons why we need to do something about this.
    4. Stating the things that need to be done to help.
    5. Linking it to the Refugee week and fundraising events: This part will be amended once we know which activities are taking place.

The power point does not have to be very long. 6 slides maximum including this information in Spanish and English.

Day 3: the groups that have done the power point have now to design in their multicultural teams the posters that are going to be put around the school to advertise the fundraising and the partnership between NGA and IESO Sierra la Mesta.

    QUESTIONS TO RESEARCH:

    1. Who is considered to be a refugee? What is the difference between refugee and asylum seeker?
      1. ¿Quién es un refugiado? ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre refugiado y solicitante de asilo?
    2. What is Spain doing to help refugees? What is England doing to help refugees?
      1. ¿Qué está haciendo España para ayudar a los refugiados? ¿Qué está haciendo Inglaterra para ayudar a los refugiados?
    3. Why do we need to do something about this crisis as citizens of the world?
      1. ¿Por qué necesitamos hacer algo sobre esta crisis como ciudadanos del mundo?
    4. What can we do to help as citizens of the world?
