This is a rook. Rook can only move straight. It can go as many squares as bard allows it.

Questa è la torre. La torre può solo muoversi dritta. Può muovere di tanti quadretti quanto lo permettela scacchiera.

The bishop can only move diagonally. White square bishop and black square bishop on black square.

L'alfiere puo' solo muovere in diagonale. L'alfiere campo bianco sulle case bianche e l'alfiere campo nero sulle case nere.

The Queen is he most powerful piece. It can go both straight and diagonally for as many squares as board allows it to. The queen can also be captured.

La regina e' il pezzo piu' potente. Puo' andare sia dritta che in diagonale, per quanti quadretti le permette la scacchiera.

The King can only go one square at the tine in any direction. It must be protected by all the pieces. It can't be captured  but if it can't escape a capture,  it is a "check mate" and the game is over.

Il re puo' solo avanzare di una casa alla volta in qualsiasi direzione. Deve essere protetto da tutti i pezzi. Non puo' essere catturato, ma se non ha la possibilta' di evitare la cattura, e' "scacco matto" e il gioco e' finito.

The Knight can only move in the shape of an L letter. Knight is the only piece that can jump over other pieces.
