DEMOCRACY IN LITHUANIA AND GREECE
What does democracy mean in general? ? How does it work in the country and at the local level ? What does it mean for everyone of us?We tried to find out .In Cambridge Dictionary there are given 2 definitions for this word :
1. the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by electedrepresentatives or directly by the people themselves.
2. a country in which power is held by elected representatives.
Don't forget that Greece is the country where the democratic political systme was born. According to BRITANNICA ENCYCLOPAEDIA Democracy, literally, rule by the people. The term is derived from the Greek dēmokratiā, which was coined from dēmos (“people”) and kratos (“rule”) in the middle of the 5th century bce to denote the political systems then existing in some Greek city-states, notably Athens.
