The children dramatize short parts of a book about the human body "The Fairy Tale of Breath" by Dimitra Mpousiou.
The tale was written within the framework of the anti-smoking campaign which is entitled "Take a breath" and is undertaken by the Hellenic Thoracic Society. The story is an imaginary journey through the world of the human body. The children get to know the human organs, their functions and the bodies’ enemies along with ways of protecting their body and the fairy of Life, Breath.
The teachers read extracts of the story to the children in English or in their native language and present the list of characters.
Each character is studied in class. For example, Heart is one of the characters.
1. The teacher reads the relevant page from the book and translates the information in the children's native language focusing on few words and phrases that may be important for script of the play.
2. The children learn some information about this organ,
3. they draw and color the organ and a Valentine heart,
4. they watch a children's documentary about the organ and
5. they decide what Heart, the character would look like and what it does in the play.
The same process is followed for the rest of the characters. As soon as all the characters are covered, the children decide which character they would like to play. The partner teachers assign roles to all the children
Each partner prepares a short video (few seconds) based on the character they act out e,g. King Mind (the brain), Breath (fairy), horsemen=knights protecting the castle (=human body) . The children prepare their costumes, masks, props (e.g. swords)
