    School presentation

The King’s Hospital School is a secondary school with 710 students; 280 boarders and 430 day students. We have 80 teachers, a medical team comprising 2 doctors, 3 nurses, a physiotherapist and a counsellor as well as a large onsite catering and housekeeping staff. The school was founded in 1669, which makes it one of the oldest schools in the world. Following a long tradition of strong Church of Ireland values of compassion, respect and personal responsibility, we continue to thrive as one of Ireland’s leading boarding schools.

The King’s Hospital School is located just 20 minutes from Dublin city, on the banks of the River Liffey and within easy reach of motorways and transport links. The school is on an 85-acre campus with unrivalled amenities such as a pool, fitness centre and all-season pitches as well as rehearsal rooms, a recording studio and a performing arts centre. Students typically sit exams in 10 subjects at Junior Cycle level and in 7 or 8 subjects at Senior Cycle level. Our Transition Year programme, which follows the Junior Cycle, is compulsory and allows students to acquire hands-on industry experience with two separate work experience placements. Students also participate in workshops, educational trips, outreach and volunteering programmes.

Our boarding houses offer Irish and international students a home from home and the chance to become independent and self-reliant. Over a third of staff live on campus with their families, providing a dedicated boarding house team to offer well-being and academic guidance. Our enrichment programmes offer students a wide choice of sporting, leisure and cultural activities.
