BHAK/BHAS Weiz

  • HAK Weiz is a economy secondary high school located in Weiz - the green heart of Austria. The school offers two basic training
opportunities for students between 14 and 19 years: A classical economical based training on the one hand and a business
informatics based training on the other hand.
While in the classical form of economical training, the students have to choose two foreign languages during grades 1-2, the only
foreign language in the case of business informatics is English. Instead of the missing languages, the focus of education is based on a
combination of business and informatics with the focus on software development. Missing language lessons are replaced by
programming courses, education in software development, project management, operating systems and computer networks.
In the case of the classical economical education, the students have to choose a second foreign language (beside English) from
grade 3, or can focus their knowledge on logistic management, business and taxes-law and controlling.
Students can make their level A exams, which entitles them to enter university or start working right after school (which approx. 50%
    do).
Our highschool is located in the middle of a highly industrialized area of Austria and its (car-) supply industry has got a high demand
for economic experts. So our well educated students have good opportunities on the job market.
On the other hand we also have a commercial college (Handelsschule) which is a reduced form of the highschool in terms of content
and length of duration. The curriculum is more practical oriented. After 3 years the students leave school without A-level and in
many cases it is hard for them to find a job. These students usually come from families with low income and/or low education or they
have a migration background. These students need special training and motivation in order to find their place in our society. We
want to focus on these students during our project work, since they are usually not well-integrated in the classes and extra courses.
