3rd Meeting Lebork - Poland

  • Sunday

We arrived in Lebork and met with the host families and were able to settle in. The techers had a short meeting to discuss the upcoming activities.

    Monday

All the participants in the project gathered in the staff room of the school. We were greeted by the head-teacher and two students gave a presentation of the school and the town. Shortly after we went to visit the Migrating Dunes in the Slowinski National Park. We climbed Lacka Dune, which used to be a lot higher - but has now started to migrate.

It would be nice to be able to visit again in the summer so that we could have a swim!

We ate lunch at the beautiful Neptun  Hotel.

When we arrived back at the school the students took part in activities to help them get to know each other. Then both teachers and students learnt a dance, "Belgijka", together. It took time but thanks to the patience of our instructors we got there in the end!

    Tuesday

Tuesday was long but a very rewarding. We started our day with a visit to the Oliwa cathedral, which was built in the 16th century,  to listen to a concert on the great organ. We then continued with a guided tour of Gdansk. We toured the churches and buildings of this beautiful and historic city.

During a visit to the European Centre of Solidarity we learned about the trade union and civil resistance movement. The building itself was also a fantastic piece of architecture.

Our students had a chance to visit the Riviera shopping centre in Gdynia to buy some presents and eat an evening meal. All that was left was the bus trip back to Lebork , tired but happy.

    Wednesday

We were honoured to start the day with a visit to the town hall and a meeting with the mayor. We now know a lot more about the history of Lebork thanks to a video presentation.

Our students were then set to work in different groups. One group of students, along with the P.E. teachers learned about different sporting activities from the participating countries. The other students worked on arts and crafts projects. While the students were busy, Victor demonstrated the uses of Prezi to the teachers. We will be able to take these experiences home with us and incorporate them into our own lessons.

To end the day the students and teachers attended a disco where a great time was had by all. They even performed the dance that they had learned on Monday!

    Thursday

We learnt a lot about the beautiful town of Lebork as we took a walk to see the historic sites, students informed us on the history of the town and then tested on our newly gained knowledge.

In the afternoon we were invited to a celebration of the Polish "Teacher's Day". This involved a concert with fantastic performances from Polish students and teachers. We were all very impressed by the talents of the students. Teachers from Erasmus+ acted as a jury.

All the teachers decided that the Polish "Teacher's Day" should be adopted by the whole of the EU.

    Friday

On our last day we still had lots to do. We visited Farm Frites - a factory that produces French fries and other potato products. We had a guided tour of the factory and a chance to sample the products. We all learnt a lot about the production line and the different processes involved. We also had a chance to evaluate the meeting. The teachers and students were all very positive, and some students had already planned a return visit.

Lastly it was time to say goodbye. Students exhanged phone numbers and Facebook invites, promises were made to keep in touch and to meet again in the future and there were even some tears.
