BUILDING BRIDGES. Navigating cultural differences to communicate effectively with people

The project aims to develop intercultural competence to prepare students for effective cross-cultural communication both in their every day life and in the work environment. The purpose of the activities is to promote the students’ cultural knowledge and awareness by guiding them to explore their own cultural framework and to familiarise with the idea that there are many lifestyles, languages, cultures and points of view and that others hold different values and believe in them as much as they do. By becoming aware of cultural differences and understanding them, learners will gradually develop cultural skills, that is the ability to communicate effectively in a variety of cultures. They will thus develop attitudes of openness, respect and tolerance, and the ability to cope with ambiguity. The approach is action-oriented as students are required to explore the aspects of different cultures, compare, debate and work collaboratively to develop effective communication strategies.
